“Find out which weight loss pills
you should avoid”
Ephedra
One of the main active ingredients in many diet pills and weight loss supplements on the market today is Ephedra. Products containing this ingredient are normally referred to as “Thermo”, “Lean” or “Fat Burners”.
The FDA has been issuing warnings to purchasers of diet pills and supplements about products containing ephedra since the early 1990’s. It is a good idea to do your research and exercise caution before using any products containing this ingredient.
Since ephedra is a powerful stimulant, it can help your body to lose weight, but that also brings about many possibly dangerous side effects. Some of the ones that are most often reported include irregular heartbeat, insomnia, depression and nervousness.
There have even been reports of people who were not able to sleep or eat for days when taking this substance. This is not a good way to lose weight!
Xenical
One of the better known diet pills that are available through prescription is Xenical. It has been used for the long term treatment of clinical obesity, and the risks that go along with this condition. Some of the risks that would go along with obesity include high blood pressure, high blood sugar levels and high cholesterol.
This particular weight loss diet pill is based on Orlistat that works to block some of the fat that you are eating so that it can’t be absorbed as easily by your body.
There are however, some negative side effects to using Xenical which you need to be aware of. These include an urgent need to go to the bathroom, stomach pain, increase in bowel movements, oily spotting between bowel movements, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea and rectal pain.
It is also not recommended to use Xenical if you are sensitive or have other allergies, especially an allergy to Orlistat. It is also not advised if you have any history of gallbladder problems or chronic malabsorption syndrome – which is an inability to absorb food and nutrients in your body properly.
Chitosan
Chitosan is actually named after a fibre that comes from the exoskeleton of shellfish, which claims to be able to effectively block fats. Be aware that there are numerous outlandish claims all over the internet by sellers of Chitosan saying that you can eat whatever and however much you want, and still lose weight.
There is absolutely no scientific evidence from any clinical research to back up these claims. We strongly advise against buying Chitosan as a complete weight loss diet pill, because there really is no statistical evidence that it even works.
It has been proven to lower cholesterol levels, but most of these products containing Chitosan are very expensive to buy. There are cheaper and much more effective cholesterol lowering products available to buy.
Meridia
Meridia is promoted as a short term weight loss supplement to go along with diet and exercise for the treatment of obesity.
It is normally targeted at people whose BMI (Body Mass Index) is greater than 30. As with other diet pills, Meridia suggests that regular exercise and changing eating habits are needed by overweight people to see any results.
It is very important to have your pulse and blood pressure monitored closely when taking Meridia as it has been reported to cause increases in blood pressure by users.
Xerisan ASA
Xerisan ASA is made up of a list of ingredients including Picolinate, Synephrine, Vulgaris, Phaseolus, and Pyrovate. Recent research indicates that use of the prescribed combination Phaseolus Vulgaris will act as a blocker to the enzyme alpha-amylase.
In turn, there will be less carbohydrates being broken down into dextrins, then further to glucose. In the end, starches that are consumed will pass through the body’s digestive system without being digested, which will cause less intake of energy and a decrease in the storage of body fat.
The other ingredients in this product work together for further metabolism of fats, and is considered to have great potential for future weight loss markets. There have been no serious side effects noted as of yet, but the effectiveness of the product is still being questioned.
Propolene
The main ingredient in Propolene is called Propol, the name that has been given by the company for glucomannan. Two other well known products that have been pushed on the market – Muscle Tech’s Diet Tech and FiberThin – also list glucomannan as an active ingredient.
It is a soluble fibre which has the ability to absorb up to 200 times its weight in water, promoting a feeling of fullness. It is very important to understand that glucomannan can also hurt the absorption of other important nutrients needed by the body.
Because of this, many health care experts advise taking a good multi-vitamin along with any product containing this as an active ingredient. Glucomannan is listed as a fat blocker by the Obesity Research Institute, LLC, but there really is no solid evidence that has been shown at this time.
Sellers of propolene advise that it isn’t designed for casual dieters, instead suggesting it be used only for those who need to lose over 20 pounds. One clinical study revealed that those who were using propolene were able to get rid of as much as 50 pounds of extra body fat.
The federal government has questioned whether propolene can cause weight loss to occur at a rate of more than 2 pounds a week, without diet or exercise. They also advise that it is not accurate to claim using propolene can allow you to eat whatever you want and still lose weight, going so far as to say that some people may not lose any weight at all by using this product.
Phentermine
For short term treatment of obesity, Phentermine is often used as an appetite suppressant. There have not been many studies concerning long term use of this drug though, to be sure of possible effects.
Those who are advertising and promoting this drug recommend that it be used in conjunction with diet, exercise and therapy to work on behaviour and habits for the best weight loss results. Phentermine is considered a prescription drug, but you can easily find it online in various strengths and forms.
It works by suppressing the appetite through a central mechanism in the brain itself. It also acts as a stimulant, increasing the amount of adrenaline in the body which also helps to suppress the appetite. It is very important to realize the potential side effects of this drug, and should only ever be used as a short term solution when getting started on a weight loss program.
We strongly advise getting a medical opinion and advice before ever taking any Phentermine product. Even though most side effects that have been reported by users are generally mild, there have been more serious problems noted like blurred vision, sleeplessness, chest pain, irritability, dry mouth and tachycardia (rapid heartbeat).
